AI, AI Bias & AI Ethics

Everything you need to know.

AI is fallible. Algorithms are designed by humans who have their own implicit and explicit biases, which make their way into the code they write. Thus, AI can discriminate on the bias of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, income level, etc.

To inform the safe and responsible use of AI and mitigate biases, the United States Department of Defense developed an ethical framework for its use. Its five principles are:

Responsibility

Traceability

Reliability

Equitability

Governance

Now is the time to be having these conversations, before it gets too late.

AI can be a catalyst of the spread of misinformation, such as around presidential elections or the COVID-19 vaccine.

Spambots are one example of technology that can rapidly spread this misinformation. These forms of communication harm media consumers, impacting whom they vote for and the decisions they make about their health.
