Why you should care
While real-life effects may seem far in the future, we see them shattering society today. Help support preventative measures rather than hoping to reduce the damage when it comes
Laws may not protect you.
As with most new technology, laws and regulations have lagged behind the development of AI. Becuase we have lived to tell the tale, it might be easy to take advantage of this perceived safety. However, the problem is that there has been little technology that has been so all-encapsulating, that transforms lives with the flip of a switch. Still, the legislation will catch up eventually, right? Well, no. Technology takes more and more for the average person to understand. Parallelly, companies must make a profit meaning that they must keeping their users hooked on the applications. This will continue until a line is drawn by authority until it doesn't when all tips over. Numerous experts have cautioned about what they expect in the near future.
There have been numerous thought experiments to explain the concern. Some of them include the Paperclip Problem, and the famous Trolley Problem.

With questions like the Trolley Problem, we have already decided that there is no correct answer. If that is true, then is there a correct answer to programming AI? We have come to this conclusion already. However, the trolley problem and it's effects on self-driving cars are not the only presentable hypotheticals. Who gets to decide what can and cannot be said on social media? How will companies be incentivized to be care for their consumers, to prioritize health and prevention of echochambers as opposed to unlimited consumption and algorithms designed to lure users into addictions? These are questions we ask but we seem to be content without an answer.
